You can find plenty of great tutorials all across the web. For starters, try IceFlowStudio’s channel on YouTube, or Bert Monroy’s podcasts on Revision3. Try as many as you can, as you should start picking up tips and tricks here and there.

You can also look into getting Scott Kelby’s “Down & Dirty Tricks” books. They’ll teach you some really cool and versatile Photoshop functions that you can use over and over again. If you have the money, you should also invest in a membership to NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) for a year. There are lots of great tutorials that you can only access as a member, so do as many as you can before your membership expires. That will give you a pretty solid foundation in Photoshop.

To really excel at design, though, you’re going to need to invest in Adobe Illustrator as well as Photoshop. Logos should never be created in Photoshop, since they need to be vectorized (which the first example you linked to is definitely not). Also, I hate to say it, but those examples are very amateurish, and are made using mostly Photoshop brushes that they probably aren’t commercially licensed to use. Even the most uninitiated “designer” can make things look pretty snazzy with very little effort, but if you’re looking to make graphic design a career, you’re going to have to familiarize yourself with the actual tools in Photoshop, and not rely on quick fixes like that. Good luck!
